We woke on monday early and tried to get out of the house early, but that was not possible. Roberto and I went for a morning sort of run, around Placa Colon, and found the parking for the car rental. we ran past many armed guards near the finance ministries, which was very odd.
It took a very long time to get out the house today, as there was not hot water in the second bathroom, so 5 people through the master, ugh. We did finally get out the house around 11am and walked to Museo del Prado. We spent a wonderful long hours visiting not nearly all the art. Eva was a wonderful tour guide and has many hours of stories to share. We ate lunch in the museum cafeteria and the food was good. then back to the museum to finish. Then we strolled a short distance to the Museo de Reina Sofia, which is the modern art museum, this was my favorite of the two. Several hours later and very tired kids later we left. We found a tasty tapas bar a few blocks away and had a cheese tray, meat tray, grilled octopus, bread and waters. The a short walk back to Atocha train station and a short 1 stop to Recoleto, just blocks from our apartment. Then resting for the night, doing loads of laundry since the washer is so tiny. I should explain the apartment, very modern and updated with new laminate floors. Several large mirrors. The kitchen is inventive but small, one wall is sliding wood doors which hide the pantry, microwave oven, washer and dishwasher. There are no drawers in the kitchen. It is functional, but frustrating, because you cannot open the fridge and into the laundry because the sliding doors prohibit it. Overall we are comfortable, but the lack of sufficient hot water is a real bummer.
Later this evening after dinner there was a big challenge learning of the short timeframe the airbnb rental was for check out on Tuesday morning. This was not our intended plan, as we had originally thought to visit Segovia and sleep in Madrid. Both Roberto and Eva worked diligently reworking our schedule, deciding to cancel the Segovia trip, and adding another day in Valencia.

Food

Cafe at the Prado Museum: Museum food with a Spanish flare
O pazo de lugo: Good galician food, would definitely recommend
